BREAD UPMA

Hi all, it's been a long time since I posted something. But life has been busy and trying something new needs mood, creativity and most importantly time. Anyway, here I am, sharing with you a recipe that was made by my husband and son for breakfast. There were lots of bread loaf left, so hubby decided to make a quick Bread Upma, surprisingly it turned out really well and very flavorful too. So, here it goes.

BREAD UPMA

INGREDIENTS

Bread: 8-10 slices (preferably wheat bread)
Onion: 1 Medium Chopped
Tomato: 1 Medium Chopped
Green Chilli's: 2-3
Red Chilli: 1-2
Mustard Seeds: 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds: 1 tsp
Ginger: 1-2 Tsp chopped
Urad Dal: 1 Tsp
Chana Dal: 1 Tsp
Hing (Perungayam): A Pinch
Salt as required
Oil as required
Water: 1/2 cup
Curry leaves: 8-10
Cilantro ( Kothamalli): 2 Tbsp chopped
Turmeric Powder: 1/2 tsp

MAKING

Remove the edges of the Bread slices and chop them into small cubes

Take a pan ( Kadai), pour about 1 Tbsp oil. Once hot, add the Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Urad Dal, Hing (Asafoetida), Red Chilli and Chana Dal. Once the mustard seeds splutter, add the Curry leaves, Green Chilli and Ginger. Saute it for a couple of minutes, then add the chopped onions, turmeric powder and about 1/2 tsp salt. Saute the onions until its cooked and turns golden brown. Now add the chopped tomato, saute it for another 3 minutes. Add half a cup of water, wait till it heats up, keep the flame in medium, add the remaining salt as required, add the chopped bread cubes and mix it well until the bread has fully absorbed the salt, spices and the water. Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves.

Delicious Bread Upma is ready to eat. Perfect for breakfast. Enjoy!
